Our relationship with ourselves is one of the most important ones we have. We spend a lot of time conversing with ourselves, guiding ourselves through life’s twists and turns, and experiencing many different things.
However, many of us put ourselves on the backburner when it comes to relationships.
It’s important to nurture our self-connection and ensure we’re caring for ourselves as best we can β even if that looks different in different seasons. Here are a few places to start:
Consider what you want to work on: Whether you make a mental list, jot it down in a journal, or type it up on your phone, think about an area or a few things you’d like to improve with yourself. Would you like to spend more time alone? Perhaps you’d like to challenge yourself to cook more at home.
Practice mindfulness and intentionality: Try to engage mindfully with tasks as you move throughout your day, and be intentional when working toward goals you set to improve your relationship with yourself.
Go easy on yourself: The saying, “You’re your own worst critic,” can ring true for many of us. If you catch yourself making a negative thought toward yourself, try to reframe it to be more positive or negative. Tip: If you wouldn’t say it to a loved one β or a younger version of yourself β don’t say it!
Take it slow: Don’t feel like you have to make a complete 360 on your relationship with yourself overnight. Find mindful things you can do that make you feel good, and do that!
